Golf R wont be offered with a manual in some markets

VW has announced that Golf R will no longer be available with a manual gearbox staring in 2019 for those in the UK. They have indicated that there just isn't enough demand in Europe, as U.S bound Golf R's will still be available with a stick shift. The ratio in the U.S is about 50/50, which is an even higher percentage than the GTI.

It's a little surprising that the ratio of manuals is so high, but that makes sense on a performance model. Audi has made similar cuts to the A4 and A6, as moving forward neither of them will have manuals in the U.S.

Anyone who really wants a manual, still stay German and at the same time still have that driver focused feel going on... a used manual transmission Cayman is the way to go.

While there are often quite heated debates about the death of manual transmissions, sales numbers speak for themselves. Volkswagen has already alluded to R variants of their upcoming electrics, and I can guarantee there wont be any complaints once people experience the benefits of an electric powertrain.

I wonder how exactly they plan on tuning performance EV's. Aside from making some changes to the ECU, I really don't now what other components they could possibly swap.

I'm guessing a remap and maybe some larger battery packs. Weight reduction could also go a long way in improving performance.
