VW stepping up color options on next gen Golf R

VW will finally be increasing the number of colors for those of us in North America. Starting next year, the Golf R will be available in 40 different finishes but they are going to come at a price. Volkswagens new Spektrum Program will provide 8 times the number of colors offered previously, but will be charging a hefty $2,500 for one of these unique finishes. Look at them all

This is great to see. Hopefully the success of the program on the Golf R will force VW to consider similar options across their lineup. Though some may see the unique colors as fairly expensive, its an easy price to justify for anyone buying the Golf R.

This is long overdue and will be an easy up sell. There's quite a few colors on there that look really similar though, so I don't know if they really needed such an extensive list.

Over time I would imagine the availability of options will change, depending on the amount of interest in each color. VW has already offered some more unique colors on the recently redesigned Jetta.

That new Habanero Orange is also offered on the Atlas and the Beetle. For whatever reason VW has always offered more color choices on the Bug.

It has to do with emotion and character and the Beetle has always done it best. Most other VW products have a hard time achieving that. Golf R is another that comes to mind, but it's more micro-niche.

I think the Beetle has always lent itself better to more vibrant color options. And these choices are a result of consumer demand, and obviously there hasn't been a whole lot of interest in new colors for the standard Golf.

Right now we're seeing VW being sort of reborn and with that should come better options.
At least they can do what Audi can't with cheaper models and trims and there's growing demand for it.
