First pics of Golf 8 test mule

It looks like some spy photos recently got a look at the new Golf 8 inside and out. From the pictures it looks like the new Golf has a longer rear as well as a longer wheelbase. It looks like on the inside that VW has implemented some changes as well, with a new gear shifter that's borrowed from the Touareg.

Its great that we're finally starting to see some prototypes, but I hope that VW is considering making more drastic changes to the next gen Golf's body style. Glad to see that they are looking to do something new with the cabin at least.

Apparently it had some problems and the hood had to be lifted for inspection and the autoblog spy photographers took advantage of of that to take this shot. Honestly can't make heads or tails of what I'm seeing, but they think it could be an updated 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four.

Any idea why it looks like the rear bumper is just taped on aha? Definitely suggests that VW is still in the early stages on finalizing the new body style. Which is a good thing because it looks pretty identical to the outgoing models.

Maybe the tape covers up a line of LED light connecting the two taillights? Can't imagine why they would tape up just that area and not the rest of the rear.
Most likely what we're seeing may not be the production model's body because it seems a bit early to see it fully uncovered ahead of its debut.

That seems like an odd place for a light, but it definitely reinforces the fact that this is still in the prototype phase. Seeing as how the next gen model has a longer wheelbase, they made have had to retrofit the body panels.

That bracket over the infotainment system has some words on it, too bad it;s so blurry I can't read anything when i zoom in. Usually those have some important information we can learn from. A lot of the center stack buttons are missing too, so they;re hiding add on features as well.

to me it looks like they just taped the gaps just to reduce drag which makes sense if you want to test lap times or even just gas mileage, most people would be surprised at what can impact gas mileage, even your paint not being perfectly smooth and clean can impact mileage.
