VW Golf GTI vs Hyundai i30N

Just wanted to share this heads up comparison of the latest GTI and i30N. Was not anticipating the i30N to beat the GTI in a drag race, but imo that's more the fault of the drivers.

I'd assume the Golf would win when faced against the i30N. Compared to other hot hatches the Golf is more of an all rounder than a purely track machine but I didn't think the Hyundai would win. Why not race with the Golf R?

I think the i30N is getting more recognition, for the simple fact that its exceeding most expectations. It seems like Hyundai has nailed their first attempt at a hot hatch, with VW having more than 30 years of engineering and evolution in the Golf.

Yeah I'm not sure why they didn't go with a performance Golf either, if they were looking to do a head to head drag race like this? Perhaps they were trying keep things within the same price bracket? Because I would imagine the Golf R sits a good bit higher than the i30N's £27,995 price tag.

Price is definitely it and down the road we should see something similar happen on a higher level such as a Golf R vs the new Veloster N. Hyundai is at a point they can price the Veloster performance model well within the Golf R.

If the N badge sees successful sales I'm sure we will see a higher performance and priced lineup in the future. It was a smart move for Hyundai to bring their first generation performance trim in at less than the competitors.

It doesn't look like the comparisons between these two models are going to stop anytime soon. CarAdvice just posted this video last week which shows the i30N beat the current GTI in a 1/4 mile sprint and by a surprising margin.
