Golf GTI Rabbit joins the lineup for 2019

VW will be introducing a special Golf GTI for 2019, dubbed the Rabbit Edition. They have yet to release any details or specs around it, but its likely going to get a series of bespoke parts to distinguish it from the regular GTI models. There will be four colors to choose from including Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White, and Deep Black. Chances are that it'll see the GTi's 2.0l turbocharged 4 cylinder, that has 220hp and 258lb-ft of torque. It's expected to sit just above the standard GTI, which starts at $26k.

Glad to hear that they are bringing back the Rabbit variant, though I'm curious as to what unique styling cues it may get. Are we thinking that it'll be offered in both 3 and 5 door configurations?

I have a feeling that now that its just a trim level that it'll probably only be one or the other. VW has already said that it will be a limited edition run of only 3,000.

I won't mind seeing them partner up with a brand like ABT to come out with an official high performing model. Ford does something similar with Rousch and it played out well over the years.

Oddly enough it looks like there are no quantity restrictions for Canada. I guess VW thinks it's going to be a fair bit more popular up north.

well, after diesel gate sales have increase consistently and steadily and the Canadian market is very much like the European market that VW thrives in.

We've already seen a lot of trim level changes for 2019 models across VW's lineup and all of them seem to be tied to emissions in one way or another. And VW has gone back on that initial statement and it looks like Canada will only be getting 900 Rabbits.

I hope the future trims have an option that have seats with more racey bolsters because with the sportier characteristics rumored this time around, we need to feel it in the cabin as well.

I was thinking it was a bit odd that the U.S would have restricted availability but Canada would not. Thanks for the update. Doubt those 900 units will last long.

I bet that will create some demand for VW enthusiasts that live closer to the boarder to buy these.
Who knows, it might increase the value of Canadian Rabbits. Great for canucks.
